Somewhere in Java

English text below.

ENGLISH

There is a place in Java where the sound of the waves crashing along the expanse of exotic black sand stirs up the muck to create a weirdly soothing yet adventurous atmosphere. The smells upon the wind are so different from what you are used to, fresh and full of promise not bloated full of the hustle and bustle of the city left behind. You can’t help but cast off on an adventure into this serene and remedial world.

To get there you must first pass through an old neglected factory that is slowly being sucked back into the centre of the scenery, decaying to become one with the hills and overtaken by the hungry advance of trees and bushes. The place has stories it holds and will never tell, it's forgotten the people who once worked there. Sedentary in its own decomposition, running out time, exuding a mysterious appeal that is beguiling to discover.

Your veins pop with an incoherent energy and your mind fires on ecstasy as you soar across the dunes astride your treasured motorcycle. Spinning tires reveal routes that may have been ventured, once upon a time. Every twist of the throttle or dip of the bars across the bucking bronco of a would be road only serve to amplify the pleasure centres of your excursion. The world slows down, you’re on sensory overload, wind caressing your face, the fresh sour salty sea aroma mixes with your own two stroke fuel and the captivating vista swirling past you, you lock this place in your mind.

Somewhere in Java.

On the edge of Harajuku, a bold new sign has risen - The Residence of Impermanence - in Harajuku, Tokyo, is back. Art, surfboards, motorcycles, apparel, café, music - a place where all kinds of enthusiasms collide. Step inside to the Deus Café - a breezy open ceiling space, serving all-day breakfast and the perfect energy for every moment. We're not ones to argue with that. Climb the spiral staircase to surfboards quietly lined against a softly lit backdrop.

Shaped exclusively for the Residence by Takuya “Tappy” Yoshikawa, Tetsuya Ogawa, and Jared Mell, each board is one of a kind. Sofas once beloved at the former Harajuku store — crafted by TRUCK Furniture and Stephen Kenn — have been reupholstered and brought to life for their next chapter. They’ll take on new character with time — just like this place. We invite you to settle in and enjoy the flow.
