DEUS EX MACHINA PRESENTS, BARMY SURPLUS SS17 COLLECTION.

DEUS EX MACHINA PRESENTS, BARMY SURPLUS SS17 COLLECTION.

The considered DEUS SS17 northern hemisphere collection is a celebration of the culture of inclusiveness and creativity that kick started the Deus movement, and saw it take wing around the world.

The collection takes reference from every Deus Temple – Sydney, Milan, Venice Beach, Tokyo and Bali – and is presented in three stories;

Barmy is defined as extremely foolish. Army Surplus as goods and equipment which are surplus to the army's requirements. Barmy Surplus is our extremely foolish portmanteau that embodies both - military grade garments surplus to sensible requirements but fit for all types of tomfoolery, celebrating free spirited travel. A story of tropical adventure and an eclectic collection of garments and accessories picked up along the way. Military styles are mixed with vintage sportswear, camouflage and floral prints, moto jerseys and souvenir tees. Heavy washes and treatments are used to create a unique vintage feel.

INDIGO - One of the oldest natural dyes on the planet. Deus loves the blue stuff and have made use of it across a full range of apparel. The unique characteristics of the dye will see it fade over time improving the look and appearance the more it is worn.

MONOCHROME - In contrast monochrome has a clean and modern aesthetic. Nothing superfluous and everything considered - the silhouettes and details such as drop back hems on the shirts, longer lengths on the sweats and tees and articulated seaming and darting, stitching and raw edge details make the styles subtle and interesting. Fabrics are technical with a cotton stretch, cotton nylon mixes and waterproof finishes.

Designed at the Deus House of Simple Pleasures in Sydney, Australia.

On the edge of Harajuku, a bold new sign has risen - The Residence of Impermanence - in Harajuku, Tokyo, is back. Art, surfboards, motorcycles, apparel, café, music - a place where all kinds of enthusiasms collide. Step inside to the Deus Café - a breezy open ceiling space, serving all-day breakfast and the perfect energy for every moment. We're not ones to argue with that. Climb the spiral staircase to surfboards quietly lined against a softly lit backdrop.

Shaped exclusively for the Residence by Takuya “Tappy” Yoshikawa, Tetsuya Ogawa, and Jared Mell, each board is one of a kind. Sofas once beloved at the former Harajuku store — crafted by TRUCK Furniture and Stephen Kenn — have been reupholstered and brought to life for their next chapter. They’ll take on new character with time — just like this place. We invite you to settle in and enjoy the flow.
